October 26, 2010 - Arlington, FL - A pit bull attacked and killed a newborn baby, CBS Affiliate WAWS reported. The Department of Children and Families (DCF) is investigating the child's death that has left a family in mourning.
The pit bull attack that resulted in the death of a baby boy took place at a home in Arlington, approximately 90 miles north of St. Petersburg.
WAWS interviewed the little boy's father, who confirmed the fatal dog attack against the infant. Authorities have not released the name of the baby who later died at a local hospital.
The pit bull was euthanized Monday morning, according to the child's father.
The question of whether the baby was supervised and if the dog had previously displayed aggressive behavior is still under investigation by the state agency and police, according to DCF Spokesman John Harrell.
The neighborhood where the baby was killed has been in shock over what took place.
DCF warned that all parents should show precaution when their kids are around any type of dog to avoid similar incidents of child injury or death.
