Three Things You Need to Avoid After a Florida Slip and Fall Accident

You slipped and fell on a Florida sidewalk or broken stairs. As a result, you sustained a painful injury, one that has not only been an inconvenience in your personal life, but one that is impacting your ability to work. It would seem logical to just talk with the insurance adjuster to obtain compensation for the injury claim you filed, right? Not necessarily. There are some things that you need to avoid doing after a Florida slip and fall accident, as these actions can impair your chances of collecting compensation.

1. Don’t give a recorded statement immediately following your slip and fall. The insurance adjuster may try to persuade you to give a statement about the details of the accident, so that he or she can record your side of the story. The problem with providing a recorded statement is that there are some details you might not be aware of and you could end up saying something that you didn’t mean. Once your statement is recorded, it is near impossible to retract it.

2. Don’t admit fault. Avoid saying something like, “I can be so clumsy sometimes, I am sure the accident was my fault.” Again you don’t know all the details that led to your slip and fall injuries. Admitting fault could hurt your ability to collect on your injury claim.

3. Don’t sign anything without consulting a St. Petersburg personal injury attorney. There are many things that can go wrong if you sign a statement or settlement agreement without first talking with a Florida injury lawyer. For example, the statement could be missing facts or have errors. If you are asked to sign a settlement agreement, you could be accepting a settlement amount that is far below what your case is worth.
