3-Vehicle Crash Leaves 1 Driver Dead on Hillsborough Avenue

September 8, 2010 - Tampa, FL - Hillsborough Ave. just west of Countryway Blvd. was the scene of a fatal 3-car crash that left 1 driver dead and 2 others injured.

Reports from WTSP10 Tampa Bay News say that Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal car accident which took place in the early morning hours of August 28. According to reports, 38-year-old Jeffrey Marcus was traveling west on Hillsborough Ave. at a slow rate of speed in front of 28-year-old Morris Rakaj.

Rakaj failed to notice that Marcus' vehicle was traveling slowly and struck the car from behind, causing Marcus to be pushed into the eastbound lane. 60-year-old Michael Hayden was traveling in the Hillsborough Ave. eastbound lane and struck Marcus' car on the right side as it crossed his path.

The 2 collisions ended with all 3 cars meeting in a final crash. Rajak was pronounced dead at the scene while Hayden was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in serious condition. Marcus was taken to Town ‘N' Country Hospital with minor injuries. The FHP is citing the cause of the accident as careless driving.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles' 2009 Traffic Crash Statistics Report, there were 197,214 traffic crashes resulting in injury and 2,563 fatalities as a result of vehicle accidents in Florida.
