

June 29, 2010 - Sumter County, FL - A fatal car crash between an SUV and a pickup truck in Sumter County on June 20 resulted in the deaths of 2 people and serious injuries for 2 others. The car accident occurred at about 5 p.m. on State Road 471.
According to published reports, a 2000 Jeep SUV being driven by Kodi Chamberlain, 23, left the road while travelling south, which caused the vehicle to veer onto the west shoulder of the road. Chamberlain then overcorrected which sent the SUV into the northbound lane of SR 471.
The SUV was then struck in the side by a 2007 GMC pickup truck, which led to the ejection of Chamberlain as well as her passenger, Roger Higby, 45. Both Chamberlain and Higby died at the scene of the car accident. Neither was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Floyd Sloan, 73, the driver of the pickup truck, and his passenger, Caron Sloan, 70, both sustained serious injuries in the collision. They were both transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Their conditions are currently unknown.
No charges have been filed in connection with this tragic car accident, which remains under investigation by local police.
