A Clearwater car accident involving four vehicles leaves one person injured after a man strikes three cars while driving the wrong way along U.S. 19. The incident took place at approximately 8:30 PM on Thursday, March 18, 2010.
According to police, Clayton J. Harrison was driving while intoxicated northbound in the southbound lanes along U.S. 19 when he struck three vehicles. One of the drivers, Walter Davis, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for back and neck pain.
Clearwater police said Harrison fled the accident scene. However, he was later apprehended by authorities. Police reports indicate that Harrison was unable to stand when police caught-up with him. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he had his blood drawn. His blood-alcohol level measured 0.352, which is approximately four times the legal limit.
Harrison was finally arrested on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, as a result of the hit-and-run incident. Reports show that this is the third time that he has been arrested for leaving the scene of an accident. He was arrested in 1987 and 2000 and received probation for each incident.
The Clearwater hit-and-run accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
Driving while under the influence of alcohol can lead to a serious accident. We wish all the victims a speedy recovery.
