Clearwater Car Accident Leaves Two Officers Injured

Posted on Mar 21, 2010

A Clearwater car accident involving four vehicles leaves two police officers and another driver injured after a traffic stop goes bad. The incident took place on Friday evening, March 5, 2010, near the intersection of Missouri Avenue and Lakeview Road.

According to police, the incident began at the intersection of Cleveland and Evergreen when police made an attempt to pull over a car that failed to stop. That is when the suspect hit the police cruiser and continued to flee.

The chase ended when a police cruiser struck another vehicle that had stopped in the center lane near Missouri and Lakeview. The collision forced another cruiser to strike the first one.

In the end, both officers and the unidentified driver of the car that had stopped in the center lane were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for injuries sustained in the accident. Fortunately, their injuries were considered minor.

The fleeing driver, Jonathan James Thomas-Clark, was later arrested. He faces several charges that include aggravated assault on law enforcement, aggravated fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest without violence. Thomas-Clark faces other charges, as well.

The Clearwater auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities.

We wish all of the victims a speedy recovery.
