DUI Hit-and-Run Driver Leaves Victim on 64th Street South

October 2, 2010 - St. Petersburg, FL - A drunk driver was to blame for a hit-and-run accident that left a scooter rider in critical condition.

A report from ABC Action News shows that Jessica Eddy, 22, was driving on 64^th Street South on October 1^st when she struck Bruce Barber, 20, with her 1997 BMW. Barber was driving his scooter on 64^th Street when he was struck head-on by Eddy who was making a turn from 3^rd Avenue South.

Barber attempted to avoid the accident by tilting his scooter on its side, but the right turn being made by the BMW was too wide to avoid. Barber fell off the vehicle and lay in the road while Eddy continued to drive with the scooter still lodged under her car.

Police arrested Eddy the next day with arrest records showing she had been recently arrested for a separate DUI and released on August 22^nd. She is facing charges of DUI, driving on a suspended license, and leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in personal injuries. Barber remains in the hospital in critical condition.
