A motorcyclist was killed in a Dunedin motorcycle accident early morning on Saturday, July 25, 2009, after hitting a palm tree on Edgewater Drive.
James Johnston, a 28-year-old Clearwater resident, was fatally injured in the crash that occurred near the intersection of Locklie Street, according to deputies.
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said that witnesses reported seeing Johnston traveling on his green Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on Edgewater Drive shortly before 2:00 AM. Apparently witnesses saw Johnston go into the northbound lane to pass a vehicle when he swerved out of the way of another oncoming car, which caused him to hit the curb.
The fatal motorcycle accident is being investigated by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said that Johnston actually hit a palm tree, not the curb, which caused him to be ejected from his motorcycle.
Johnston was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:30 AM. According to deputies, Johnston was wearing a helmet at the time of the fatal motorcycle crash.
Johnston worked for Vertex Business Services, located in Tampa.
