February 10, 2011 - Clearwater, FL - A car accident on Tuesday, Feb. 1, left one man seriously injured and several other people with minor injuries, TampaBay.com has reported.
According to published reports, the car crash scattered debris across U.S. 19 around Curlew Road, which led to north and south lane closures.
Authorities received a report of the car accident shortly before 10:30 a.m. It resulted in 3 wrecked vehicles in the south lanes of U.S. 19 and one overturned vehicle in the north lanes.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Joseph Tomossone, 76, who was traveling north on U.S. 19 in a 2010 Lexus, was making a U-turn south of Curlew when he collided with a '96 Toyota that was driven by Essam Ebaid, 47, of Clearwater.
The impact caused Tomossone's Lexus to cross the median and return to the north lane. The Lexus then hit a 2007 Dodge van that was driven by Roger Netherton, 43, of Pinellas Park. The van flipped, but Netherton avoided serious harm.
Tomossone sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital, the FHP stated.
Ebaid and the 3 passengers in his Toyota - Maria Ebaid, 9; Yostina Ebaid, 13; and Mona Greges, 45, all from Clearwater - were also transported to Mease Countryside. Their injuries were minor.
