

May 20, 2011 - Brooksville, FL - The St. Petersburg Times reports that a woman died after her car ran off the road during the night of Friday, April 22 in Brooksville.
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver involved in the fatal Brooksville accident as Katrina Ann Watkins, 29, a resident of Pompano Beach. According to FHP, Watkins was southbound on Mondon Hill Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. when her 2003 Chevy Cavalier sliced the left shoulder of the road, spun out of control and rolled over several times after careening into an embankment at Bertram Road.
FHP reports that Watkins was the only person in the car and that no other cars were involved. Watkins was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene of the accident. Police are still investigating what may have caused the fatal single-vehicle accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Florida Crash Statistics, there were 2,978 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Florida.
