Jet Ski Strikes, Injures Teen off Caladesi Island

September 12, 2010 - Pinellas County, FL - Caladesi Island was the scene of a September 12 jet ski accident that put one teen in the hospital.

WTSP10 News reports that Joshua Gamble, 17, was swimming near Hurricane Pass at the north tip of Caladesi Island when he was accidentally struck by a jet ski driven by his friend, James Alexander. Alexander and another friend immediately pulled Gamble ashore and called paramedics. Gamble was unconscious and was transported by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center with injuries to his arm and head.

Alexander told deputies he purchased the 1996 Kawasaki personal watercraft a month earlier and was having problems with the steering. He said he was accelerating and tried to steer, misjudged the angle and lost control when he struck Gamble.
