A patrolling deputy discovered a man who had been attacked by dogs covered in blood on the side of the road in East Bradenton on Saturday, May 23, 2009.
The dog attack victim, Jose G. Moreno, was found by the deputy in the 3200 block of Third Street East at approximately 5:00 AM on Saturday. According to a Manatee Sheriff’s report, Moreno sustained multiple bite wounds, including a 3-inch deep gash on his neck and various scratches on his arms, chest and legs.
Moreno was flown by medical helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg for treatment for the bite wounds. He was listed as being in critical condition.
At least two dogs, maybe from a nearby residence, attacked him, according to Moreno. The Manatee Sheriff’s report is unclear as to what caused the attack and where the dogs came from. An investigation is being conducted by Manatee County Animal Control.
