Manatee Car Accident Claims Life of 28-Year-Old

A Manatee car accident involving a single vehicle claims the life of one man and leaves another in serious condition after the driver loses control of the vehicle. The incident took place at approximately 3:15 AM on Sunday morning, May 2, 2010, at Cooper Creek Boulevard and Charleston Street.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2006 Toyota lost control of the vehicle as he approached a curve. The car then caught fire after the vehicle jumped the curb and slammed into a tree. A passenger inside the vehicle lost his life as a result of the fiery collision.

The victim has been identified as Haudrey F. Figuerdo, 28, of Georgia. Rescue crews pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident from injuries sustained in the accident.

Rescue crews transported the driver of the Toyota, Carlos A. Rivera, 39, of University Park, to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Rivera has been listed in serious condition.

The fatal early morning Manatee auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It is unclear as to what caused the vehicle to lose control.
