April 15, 2011 - Clearwater, Fla. - According to a report from ABC Action News, a motorcyclist was injured in a hit and run in Clearwater.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8, Gregory Conklin, 52, was driving east on Curlew Road. At the intersection of Fisher and Curlew Road a car struck his 1991 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The driver, Lajune B. Castro, 60, who had been traveling west, made a u-turn directly in front of Conklin and struck the left side of his bike. According to officials, he was thrown from his motorcycle about 30 feet. Conklin was not wearing a helmet.
Castro fled the scene of the hit and run motorcycle accident but was later found in a parking lot at US-19 and Curlew Road.
Conklin suffered injuries, including multiple fractures to his left leg. He was taken by paramedics to St. Joseph's Hospital. Castro was not injured; however, authorities say that alcohol played a role for both the motorcyclist and the car driver.
At this time charges are pending as authorities await test results.
