One Man Dead and Two Others Injured in Tampa Accident

A Tampa car accident leaves a Lake City man dead and two others injured after two cars collide on Fowler Avenue. The collision happened at approximately 5:00 PM on Saturday evening, December 19, 2009.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the driver of a 1994 Dodge Intrepid, Charles Deas, 44, of Lake City, was exiting the parking lot of Winn Dixie at 9535 East Fowler Avenue, when he pulled into the path of a 2009 Mercedes, which was heading eastbound. The Mercedes struck the left side of the Dodge, killing Deas and injuring two other passengers. The collision forced one of the cars onto the median and the other into the shoulder.

Rescue workers arrived on the scene and pronounced Deas dead as a result of injuries he sustained in the wreck.

Deas was traveling with two other passengers at the time the accident occurred. Rescue workers rushed 27-year-old Shawnee Black, of Lake City, to Tampa General Hospital where she was listed in serious condition. The second passenger, 48-year-old Donald Reed, of Tampa, was taken to University Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Reed was sitting in the rear of the car.

The driver of the Mercedes was not identified nor was any information provided concerning any injuries that they might have suffered.

Local authorities are still investigating the fatal Tampa accident.
