Pinellas Park Pedestrian Accident Claims the Life of One

Posted on May 17, 2010

A Pinellas Park pedestrian accident claims the life of a woman after she is struck in a local parking lot by a 65-year-old driver. The incident took place at approximately 4:15 PM on Friday afternoon, April 30, 2010.

According to police, the female pedestrian was struck by a Plymouth Voyager in the parking lot just outside the Gandy Center. Rescue crews transported the unidentified woman to St. Petersburg Northside Hospital where she was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver of the Plymouth, Edward Kirby, 65, of St. Petersburg, was also taken to the same hospital after complaining of chest pains. His condition was not made known.

Police believe that the accident may have been a result of an accelerator mistake. They think that Kirby may have inadvertently hit the accelerator pedal instead of the brakes.

The Pinellas Park accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Police have also indicated that they believe that alcohol may have played a role in the fatal incident.

Car accidents in parking lots can be serious. This is an unfortunate accident and our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
