Police Shoot 2 Dogs During Attack in Pinellas County

August 3, 2011 - Pinellas County, Fla. - According to St. Petersburg Times, officers of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department shot 2 mixed-breed bulldogs after they attacked.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Department got a phone call Wednesday morning, August 3, from a resident complaining about 2 vicious dogs. The call came from Howard McGinness, 69, who had to leave his house that morning but was fearful of 2 Labrador-American bulldogs that lived a couple houses down from him on 43^rd St. N. McGinness said the dogs were acting aggressively and tried to get into his house.

When deputies Travis Roberts and Perry Warner showed up at McGinness's house, the dogs charged the officers. One of the dogs grabbed Roberts's leg and bit, forcing Roberts to shoot the dog fatally. The other dog was shot in the leg.

According to reports, the dog's leg may have to be amputated; Roberts sustained bite marks and scratches on his leg. No other injuries have been reported.

The owners of the 2 dogs, Michael Holmes and Crystal Johnson, were not home at the time and no charges have been filed.
