April 25, 2011 - Brooksville, Fla. - The St. Petersburg Times reports that a staff member of U.S. Representative Rich Nugent has been seriously injured in a single car accident.
Cheryl W. Corder, 56, of Ridge Manor, lost control of her car on Monday, April 11, at about 4 p.m. on Powell Road. She had been traveling east and was driving through a curve near Endsley Road when she apparently lost control of her 1992 Buick.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, her vehicle then crashed into a power pole. The car turned and then flipped, hitting a stop sign before it stopped moving.
Corder was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa where she was last listed as being seriously injured and in the intensive care unit.
The police are still investigating the single car Powell Road crash in Brooksville but it is believed that alcohol may have been a factor. Investigations continue. Rep. Nugent had no further information other than what he was already being told by authorities.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Florida Crash Statistics, there were 2,978 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Florida.
