A St. Petersburg car accident leaves a deputy injured after another car collides with his cruiser. The incident took place around midnight on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the intersection of Gandy Boulevard and Fourth Street N.
According to investigators, Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Walker, 38, was eastbound on Gandy Boulevard in his marked 2005 Chevrolet Impala when the incident occurred. According to reports, Walker was responding to a call and had his sirens and lights on.
Reports indicate that as Walker slowed to cross the intersection, he was struck on the right side by a 1997 Oldsmobile driven by Hae Kim, 54, of Tampa. Kim was traveling northbound on Fourth Street N. when he collided with the cruiser. Kim told police that he was on his way home.
Rescue crews transported Walker to Bayfront Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries. He was later released from the hospital. Walker has been with the Sheriff’s Department for approximately 13 years.
The St. Petersburg accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The Sheriff’s Department has not yet decided if any charges will be filed.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident and we wish Deputy Walker a speedy recovery.
