Posted on Aug 02, 2010

Aug. 2, 2010 - St. Petersburg, Fla. - A man from St. Petersburg has died following a high speed car accident that occurred late at night on July 26. According to reports in the St. Petersburg Times, the 24-year-old man was driving at high speeds and illegally passing other cars on the road just before the crash occurred.

Police reports say that the deceased car accident victim, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee near the 2800 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N, was attempting to pass a 2004 Dodge minivan when the Jeep clipped the Dodge around 11:50 p.m. The small collision caused both vehicles to spin out of control.

The Jeep struck a concrete pole at the side of the road. The 24-year-old driver of the Jeep was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was taken to Northside Hospital and pronounced dead around 12:30 a.m. on July 27. The 26-year-old driver of the Dodge minivan was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the car accident and was not injured.
