St. Petersburg Truck Accident Leaves Two Hospitalized

Posted on May 11, 2010

A St. Petersburg truck accident involving a tractor-trailer sends two women to a local hospital after their broken down vehicle is hit by a truck. The incident took place at approximately 4:15 PM on Monday afternoon, May 10, 2010, on the Howard Frankland Bridge.

According to St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue, a broken down 1995 Ford sedan was struck by a tractor-trailer on the east shoulder of Interstate 275. The truck allegedly hit the Ford while attempting to avoid another vehicle.

Rescue crews had to use special equipment to remove the roof of the Ford in order to extricate the two unidentified women. The victims were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where they were treated for injuries sustained in the accident. They were both listed in stable condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as Robert Wodnicki, 35, of Seminole. It was unclear if Wodnicki was injured in the two-vehicle wreck.

Commuters were inconvenienced as rescue crews shut down two eastbound lanes on the Howard Frankland Bridge to investigate and clear the accident scene.

The St. Petersburg tractor-trailer accident is still under investigation by local authorities.

This is an unfortunate accident and we wish the victims a speedy recovery during this difficult time.
