May 20, 2011 - Wesley Chapel, Fla. - According to ABC Action News an SUV hauling a trailer behind it flipped over on I-75 just south of the State Road 52 intersection midday on Sunday, May 1.
The SUV rollover in Wesley Chapel, located in Pasco County, Florida, caused traffic delays that lasted for a few hours.
According to ABC reporter Don Germaise, who arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, traffic was backed up for several miles after the accident, clogging the interstate all the way back to the I-275 split.
The Pasco Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol closed one lane of traffic for several hours to respond to and investigate the accident.
An SUV rollover can result in serious injuries, but so far the Florida Highway Patrol has released no information about who was in the SUV or if anyone was in the trailer or any injuries sustained. There has also been no official commentary on what the cause of the accident was.
Head injuries and spinal cord injuries are among the most commonly experienced injuries in an SUV rollover. SUVs and trucks are more apt to rollover because of their high centers of gravity.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Florida Crash Statistics, there were 2,978 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Florida.
