A Tampa car accident involving a stolen vehicle sends two to the hospital. The incident began on Monday, April 11, 2010, at Fletcher and Florida avenues.
According to police, a Brandon woman reported her Chrysler Sebring as stolen the previous day. On Monday, she noticed the stolen car and called police.
Deputies attempted to block in the Sebring as they arrived on the scene, however, the driver jumped the curb, struck a deputy’s car and fled towards 122nd and Florida avenues. The driver then forced another deputy cruiser, which was in the process of turning westbound onto 122 Avenue, into a stopped truck.
Rescue crews transported the driver of the pickup truck and passenger to Tampa General Hospital where they were treated for back pain. Fortunately, the deputy escaped injuries.
The stolen car finally came to a stop and the suspect began to flee on foot. However, deputies were able to apprehend him a short time later. He has been identified as 25-year-old Ryan Butler.
Clifford Martinez, 24, was a passenger in the stolen car. However, he remained in his seat after the Sebring came to a stop.
The Tampa accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Butler faces charges that include possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated battery and resisting arrest. Both suspects were charged with possession of marijuana and were taken to Orient Road Jail.
