Two Bradenton Pedestrians Seriously Injured, Driver Flees

August 13, 2010 - Bradenton, FL - Two pedestrians trying to cross a street in downtown Bradenton are in the hospital after a hit-and-run accident.

WTSP10 News reports that 52-year-old Bruce Roberts and 29-year-old Shanna Moyer were crossing a street on August 12^th when they were struck by a white Toyota. The unidentified driver failed to stop and continued to flee the scene, leaving police to search for a vehicle with front end damage and possible broken windshield.

The two injured pedestrians were flown to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries. The force of the impact sent them flying nearly 70 feet through the air before hitting the pavement. Florida Highway Patrol is asking anyone with information about the accident to contact Trooper Russell Cruz at 941-751-7647.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Florida Crash Statistics, there were 2,978 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Florida.
