

On the evening of Friday, February 13, 2009, two men were fatally injured when they were hit by a vehicle as they crossed U.S. 17 near Eloise, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.
At the time of the article, the 48-year-old man and 51-year-old man were not identified to the public, as their next of kin were yet to be notified.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol reports, the two men were crossing U.S. 17 just north of State Road 655 interchange at approximately 11:30 PM when they were hit by a northbound car that was driven by Locrastia S. Parker, a Lehigh Acres resident.
The report stated that the two men walked into the path of the car, which was in the center lane. The first man was struck by the left front side of the vehicle and the second man was hit by the right side of Parker’s car.
The first victim was knocked across the inside lane onto a concrete median facing south. The second victim was knocked across the outside lane of the highway and came to a stop against the curb facing north.
The Florida Highway Patrol has stressed that the findings in the report are preliminary and that the details surrounding the accident may change, as further investigation into the crash is made. It is still unclear as to whether or not alcohol played a factor in the fatal accident.
At this time, no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
