

July 16, 2010 - St. Petersburg, FL - A St. Petersburg man was sent to the hospital suffering from burns after trying to retrieve his keys from his burning car. Witnesses say he was the cause of the blaze sparked inside his Lexus LS-400 when he was caught shooting off fireworks.
According to 10Connects.com, witness reports claim the man was setting off fireworks next to some cars on the Pinellas side of Gandy Beach. A group of people asked the man to move, but he refused. The witness claims state that he then tried to shoot some of the fireworks at the group, but they backfired, setting his vehicle on fire.
A different account of the event came from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue where officials say the man and a friend were packing up the fireworks when one exploded in a box behind the drivers' seat.
The victim was treated on scene by paramedics and transported to Tampa General Hospital. The circumstances of the explosion are still under investigation.
